This Firefox extension was created in order to remove some of the more hostile elements of JobMine.

Version 0.1

Version 0.1 of the JobMine Defuser has the following features:

Removes the timeout.
Removes frames and puts the content in the full screen.
Clicking on a job title will now open the job description in a new window.
A toolbar has been provided so that the links from the top frame are still available.

Overview

Version 0.1 is functionally complete and suffers from no known defects. With that said: anyone who chooses to use JobMine Defuser extension does so at their own risk. I claim no responsibility for any injuries or damages incurred from the usage of this extension. I am providing it as a matter of goodwill.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this in any way alter or affect the JobMine website?

Nothing has been changed on the UWaterloo servers. All that is happening is a Javascript script is executed when you visit JobMine in Firefox. The script makes some modifications to the document retrieved from the server.

Will this work in browsers other than Firefox?

It is technically possible to get this to work in Internet Explorer. I looked into making it available using the GreaseMonkIE plugin, however that project has been cancelled. Unfortunately, due to time constraints I cannot support any browsers other than Firefox.

Can I uninstall the extension?

You should be able to. I've had no problems with it. Your mileage may vary. I cannot afford to provide technical support. If you install this extension, you do so at your own risk.

To install the JobMine Defuser download the file from the link above. Then choose File->Open in the menus in Firefox. Go to the directory where you saved the .xpi file and choose open. You should see a window requesting to install the software. Wait a few seconds for the safety timeout and then choose "Install Now".
